Australia Vape Rules and Pharmacy Supply Information
Australia has a pharmacy-only model for vaping products. Global Vape Marketplace does not ship nicotine vapes or cannabis products to Australia. This page provides general information for adults aged 18 and over, but state and territory rules can differ and should be checked before any purchase or prescription arrangement.
What can be ordered for delivery in Australia?
Nicotine and non-nicotine vapes can only be supplied through participating pharmacies and only for therapeutic purposes, such as smoking cessation or managing nicotine dependence. Vape shops, tobacconists, convenience stores and general online marketplaces cannot lawfully sell these products. Therapeutic vapes supplied by pharmacies must meet applicable Therapeutic Goods Administration requirements and be included on the TGA notified-vape list where required.
Because Global Vape Marketplace is not a pharmacy, it does not ship nicotine vapes, vape kits, pods, e-liquids or disposables to Australia. The same restriction applies to cannabis products. Cannabis imports and cannabis vaping goods are subject to Australian drug and customs controls, and lawful access depends on Australian medical and state or territory requirements. US-only cannabis brands on the marketplace, including STIIIZY, Raw Garden and Cookies, are not available for Australian delivery.
The pharmacy pathway
Since 1 October 2024, participating pharmacies may supply therapeutic vapes containing no more than 20 mg/mL nicotine to adults aged 18 and over without a prescription, where the relevant state or territory law permits and the pharmacist considers supply appropriate. The patient must speak with the pharmacist and provide identification for age verification. A pharmacist may discuss the product, dosage and other options for managing nicotine dependence.
A prescription from a medical or nurse practitioner is required in circumstances set by Commonwealth or state and territory law, including supply to people under 18 where permitted, and products containing more than 20 mg/mL nicotine. Products over 50 mg/mL nicotine are not permitted. Pharmacy supply without a prescription is limited to one month’s supply in a month.
Key product rules
- Nicotine: Pharmacist-supplied Schedule 3 products are limited to 20 mg/mL or less. Higher concentrations require a prescription where legally permitted, while concentrations above 50 mg/mL are prohibited.
- Flavours: Therapeutic vapes are restricted to tobacco, menthol and mint flavour profiles under the current national product rules.
- Packaging: Therapeutic vapes must use plain pharmaceutical-style packaging and comply with applicable device, ingredient, labelling and packaging standards.
- Disposable formats: Disposable single-use and non-therapeutic vapes are prohibited from importation, domestic manufacture, supply, commercial possession and advertising, subject to narrow regulatory exceptions.
- Tank and pod size: Check the current TGA product standard and the specific notified product record before ordering. Product-size requirements can depend on the product type and may change through staged regulatory implementation.
- Age: Pharmacy supply without a prescription is for adults aged 18 and over where permitted. This marketplace is adults-only and does not ship vaping products to Australia.
What to check before ordering
- Confirm that the product is being supplied by a participating pharmacy and for a lawful therapeutic purpose.
- Check whether your state or territory permits pharmacist supply without a prescription or requires a prescription in your circumstances.
- Verify the nicotine concentration, flavour, format, packaging and product listing against current TGA requirements.
- Ask the pharmacy about delivery eligibility, identity checks, dispensing limits and any prescription requirements.
- Do not import vape products from an overseas marketplace unless you have confirmed that the import is lawful and that all required licences, permits or exemptions apply.
Product availability differs by market. The marketplace catalogue includes brands such as Vaporesso, SMOK, Voopoo, Geekvape, Vuse and RELX for eligible destinations, but brand availability does not override Australian pharmacy, therapeutic-goods or customs rules. See the marketplace brands page for catalogue information and the FAQ for general marketplace terms.
Payment held until delivery
For destinations where a listed product may legally ship, the marketplace payment model holds the customer’s payment until delivery is recorded under the applicable order process. This is a marketplace payment arrangement, not confirmation that a product is legal to import, possess or use in Australia. Products ship only where legal, and customers remain responsible for checking local requirements before ordering.
